About energy-efficient equipment finance

Old heating systems, lighting, compressors, motors and refrigeration can waste a lot of energy. Energy-efficient equipment finance spreads the cost of replacing them, so the lower bills help pay for the upgrade. Options include a business loan, a bank green loan, hire purchase or leasing from the supplier's finance partner.

The Accelerated Capital Allowance lets a company write off 100% of the cost of qualifying energy-efficient equipment against profits in the year it is bought, instead of over eight years. The equipment must be on SEAI's Triple E register, new, used in the trade and not leased to you, and minimum spends apply. Budget 2026 extended the ACA to 2030. Ask your accountant how it applies to your company.

Our panel may help with an unsecured business loan to pay for the equipment, which your company then owns from day one. The lender makes the decision and sets the rate; approval is never guaranteed. See also green and energy-efficiency loans and plant and machinery finance.

Types of energy-efficient equipment finance

  • Business or green loan

  • Lease

Use of the equipment for a set term; usually no ACA for the user.

Typical eligibility

Every lender sets its own criteria. These are common starting points. We’ll tell you which lenders are likely to consider your business.

  • Irish limited company buying for business use
  • Supplier quote for the equipment
  • Bank statements and accounts that support repayments
  • For our panel, usually 12 months trading and turnover over €100,000

What you’ll usually need

  • Supplier quote and specification
  • Energy bills or an energy audit
  • Recent business bank statements
  • Latest filed accounts
Full document checklist

Advantages

  • Lower energy bills help cover repayments
  • 100% first-year tax relief may apply
  • Can support customer and lender sustainability checks

Things to consider

  • Savings are estimates, not certain
  • Leased equipment usually does not qualify for the ACA
  • Installation can disrupt the business

Rates, fees and costs

Costs depend on the amount, term and finance type. Compare the total cost in euro against the expected savings and any tax relief your accountant confirms.

We are paid commission by the lender when finance completes. We do not charge your company a fee and never ask for payment upfront.

Example (for illustration only): a company borrows €40,000 over 4 years to replace old refrigeration with energy-efficient equipment. If a lender’s offer showed a total repayable of €46,080, the repayments would be 48 monthly payments of €960. Set those repayments against the expected savings on energy bills. The real cost depends on the lender’s offer, and finance is subject to status and lender approval.

Your company must repay even if savings are lower than expected. With HP or a lease, the equipment can be taken back if payments are missed; with a loan, the lender can pursue the company and any guarantor.

Finance is subject to status and the lender’s approval. Welcome Finance is a commercial finance broker, not a lender. We arrange finance for limited companies for business purposes only; this is not regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.

Energy-efficient equipment finance: frequently asked questions

What is the Accelerated Capital Allowance?

It is a tax relief that lets a company deduct 100% of the cost of qualifying energy-efficient equipment from its profits in the first year, instead of over eight years. The equipment must be on SEAI's Triple E register. Budget 2026 extended it to 2030.

Does leased equipment qualify for the ACA?

Usually not. SEAI says the equipment must be new, used in the trade and not leased, let or hired. A loan, where your company buys and owns the equipment, is more likely to fit. Ask your accountant.

What equipment can be financed?

Most business equipment that saves energy: heat pumps, efficient boilers, LED lighting, motors and drives, compressors, refrigeration and building energy management systems. Lenders want a supplier quote and may ask for an estimate of savings.

Are there SEAI grants for business equipment?

SEAI runs several business supports, including solar PV grants and energy audit supports, and they change often. Check SEAI's business grants pages before you buy, because many grants require approval before any spend.

Does Welcome Finance offer equipment leasing?

Tell us what your company needs and we will tell you whether a lender on our panel may consider it. Our panel may also help with an unsecured business loan to buy the equipment outright.

How long can I spread the cost?

Business loans on our panel run from 6 months to 5 years. Bank green loans and leases can run longer. Try to match the term to the equipment's working life and the time the savings take to pay for it.
