About medical and dental equipment finance
Clinical equipment is expensive and needs replacing as technology moves on: dental chairs and imaging, diagnostic and scanning equipment, lasers, sterilisation units and practice IT. Medical and dental equipment finance spreads that cost over the equipment's working life. Irish asset finance providers such as Fexco Asset Finance offer hire purchase and leasing for diagnostic, clinical and dental equipment.
This page is for practices, clinics, pharmacies and veterinary businesses that trade as Irish limited companies. Lenders look at the practice's income, patient numbers and the experience of the clinicians who run it. Equipment finance is for business use only. We do not help with finance for patients or for treatment costs.
Our panel may help with an unsecured business loan to pay for the equipment, which your company then owns from day one. The lender makes the decision and sets the rate; approval is never guaranteed. See also equipment leasing and fit-out finance for a new surgery.

Typical eligibility
Every lender sets its own criteria. These are common starting points. We’ll tell you which lenders are likely to consider your business.
- Practice or clinic trading as an Irish limited company
- Supplier quote for the equipment
- Practice bank statements and filed accounts
- For our panel, usually 12 months trading and turnover over €100,000
What you’ll usually need
- Equipment quote
- Recent practice bank statements
- Latest filed accounts
- Company, director and clinician details
Advantages
- Keeps cash for staff and running costs
- Spreads the cost over the equipment's working life
- Can include installation and training
Things to consider
- Specialist equipment can have low resale value
- Fixed payments continue even if patient numbers fall
- Personal guarantees are often required
Rates, fees and costs
Ask for the total cost in euro, including documentation, end-of-term and early settlement fees. Compare the supplier's finance with a business loan before you sign.
We are paid commission by the lender when finance completes. We do not charge your company a fee and never ask for payment upfront.
Example (for illustration only): a company leases dental imaging equipment costing €80,000 over 5 years. If a lender’s offer showed rentals totalling €93,000, the company would pay 60 monthly rentals of €1,550. Check the documentation, end-of-term and early settlement fees in the offer too. The real cost depends on the lender’s offer, and finance is subject to status and lender approval.
With HP or a lease, the equipment can be taken back if payments are missed. With a loan, the lender can pursue the company and any director's personal guarantee.
Finance is subject to status and the lender’s approval. Welcome Finance is a commercial finance broker, not a lender. We arrange finance for limited companies for business purposes only; this is not regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.

How we work
Medical and dental equipment finance: frequently asked questions
Can a dental practice get equipment finance?
Yes, if it meets the lender's criteria. Dental chairs, imaging and other equipment are commonly funded through hire purchase, leasing or a business loan. Welcome Finance only works with practices that trade as Irish limited companies.
What medical equipment can be financed?
Most equipment used in a practice or clinic: diagnostic and imaging systems, treatment and laser equipment, sterilisation units, couches and practice IT. Lenders prefer equipment with a clear value and a reputable supplier.
Do I need to trade as a limited company?
For Welcome Finance, yes. We work only with Irish limited companies. If your practice trades as a sole trader or partnership, your bank or an asset finance provider such as Fexco Asset Finance may be able to help directly.
Is leasing or buying better for a practice?
Leasing can suit equipment that dates quickly, such as imaging and IT. Buying with HP or a loan suits equipment you will keep for many years, such as chairs. Ask your accountant about the tax treatment of each.
Does Welcome Finance help with patient finance?
No. We never arrange finance for patients or for treatment costs, which would be consumer credit. We only help practice companies look at finance for business equipment and working capital.
Does Welcome Finance offer medical equipment leasing?
Tell us what your company needs and we will tell you whether a lender on our panel may consider it. Our panel may also help with an unsecured business loan to buy the equipment.
