How this calculator works
The calculator uses standard amortisation: each monthly repayment is the same, and covers interest on the balance still owed plus part of the capital. Early repayments are mostly interest; later ones are mostly capital.
Most quotes apply the annual rate as a monthly rate (the rate ÷ 12). If your quote states a true effective APR instead, change “How the annual rate is applied”. The results also show the equivalent APR, factor rate and flat rate, so you can compare this loan with flat-rate or factor-rate offers.
It does not include arrangement fees or early repayment charges. Lenders set these separately and should show them to you before you sign, so compare the total cost of each offer, not just the rate.
Read the monthly repayment first, because that is what your cash flow has to carry every month. Then look at total interest and total repayable, which show what the money really costs over the whole term. Stretching the term usually lowers the repayment but raises the total interest, so try the same amount over two or three terms before deciding.
For illustration only: €100,000 at an example 9% a year costs about €3,180 a month over 36 months, with around €14,480 of interest. Over 60 months the repayment drops to about €2,076, but total interest rises to around €24,550. The Central Bank of Ireland reported an average interest rate of 5.59% on new SME loans in the second quarter of 2026; unsecured and fast-decision lenders usually charge more than that average.
Lenders usually look at recent filed accounts, management accounts, business bank statements, Revenue tax clearance, existing debt and the credit history of the company and its directors (including the Central Credit Register). The calculator assumes a fixed rate and equal repayments, so a variable rate or a repayment holiday will give different figures.

Business loan calculator: common questions
How is a business loan repayment calculated?
Most term loans use amortisation: the monthly repayment stays the same and covers interest on the balance still owed, plus part of the capital. Early repayments are mostly interest; later ones mostly capital. The calculator uses the standard formula for a fixed rate, fixed term and equal monthly repayments, before any fees.
How accurate is a business loan calculator?
The maths is exact for a fixed-rate, fixed-term loan with equal monthly repayments. What varies is the rate: it depends on your company’s accounts, credit history, security and the lender, so treat the result as a guide until you see a real offer. Fees and early repayment charges are not included.
What interest rate do Irish SMEs pay on business loans?
The Central Bank of Ireland reported an average rate of 5.59% on new SME loans in the second quarter of 2026. That average is mostly bank lending to established companies. Unsecured loans from specialist lenders, short-term loans and merchant cash advances usually cost more.
What is APR, and must business lenders quote it?
APR, the annual percentage rate, expresses the total cost of credit, including most fees, as a yearly rate. The legal duty to quote an APR comes from consumer credit law, which does not cover loans to companies. Regulated lenders lending to small companies must still give you the interest rate, fees and charges in writing before you sign.
Will using the calculator affect my credit record?
No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser and nothing is saved or searched. Our eligibility check involves no credit search and is not recorded on the Central Credit Register either. Lenders only run their own checks, including the Register, if your company chooses to apply.
Do lenders ask for a personal guarantee?
Many unsecured business lenders ask directors to sign one. It means you could be personally liable if the company cannot repay, so take independent legal advice before signing. Under the SBCI Growth and Sustainability Loan Scheme, loans up to €500,000 can be unsecured, generally with no personal guarantee (subject to certain exceptions).
Is a longer loan term better?
A longer term usually means a lower monthly repayment, which can ease cash flow, but you pay interest for longer, so the total cost is normally higher. Many companies choose the shortest term they can comfortably afford, with room to spare for slower months.
Can I repay a business loan early?
Often, yes, but terms vary. Some lenders charge an early repayment fee or a set amount of interest, so settling early may save less than you expect. Check the early repayment terms before you sign, and ask for a written settlement figure before you repay.
